GVSU PROVIDES HANDS-ON LEARNING
Whether working on a faculty member’s research project or developing an independent project guided by a faculty member, Grand Valley students have opportunities to engage in original, hands-on research and scholarship in a variety of disciplines from art history to zoology. While faculty/student research opportunities are usually reserved for graduate students at other universities, Grand Valley puts an emphasis on undergraduate research, better positioning our students for admission to top graduate schools and successful careers.
Mayra’s research is focused on Hispanic and U.S. LatinX cultures. Her students have participated in projects on Latin American soap operas, Hispanic literature and music, and even researched and created documentaries on the lives of LatinXs living in West Michigan. Yulia Conley landed her dream internship at the UN-Habitat program at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, where she learned more about urban planning in other countries, before getting accepted to the University of Oxford in England for graduate school. Watch Yulia's interview here.
