Who we are
At Grand Valley State University, Risk Management is a department within the Legal, Compliance and Risk Management division.
Our mission is to proactively protect the human, financial, and physical assets of the University from the adverse effects of loss, and to assist the University with practices to maintain its exposure to risk at acceptable levels.
The Department takes a two-pronged approach to our Mission.
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): We are responsible for the implementation and oversight of an Enterprise Risk Management process exploring the University's Strategic, Operational, Financial, and Compliance exposures. The process identifies, evaluates, monitors and documents our risks, insurable or not. These processes and tools ensure that Enterprise Risk Management remains embedded in the University's overall risk tolerance analysis framework.
Insurance Programs: The Risk Management department procures, monitors, and administers most of the University's commercially-insured, collaboratively-insured and self-insured programs.
