Grand Valley's annual campaign for the United Way raised the second-highest total of any campaign in the past four years, and it will contribute more than $165,200 to area United Way organizations.

The total amount given is a 4 percent increase from the 2016 campaign total.

"We're excited to enhance the impact of so many nonprofit organizations in our community," said campaign co-chair and associate professor of English Lindsay Ellis. "As a place-based institution, Grand Valley collaborates with the United Way and its agency partners to reduce poverty. These financial gifts enable ongoing service-learning and research with these partners to benefit West Michigan.”

The employee response rate was the same as 2016, at 72 percent.

Next year's United Way campaign will take place in October of 2018.
